On My Wish List: Dermaflash 2.0.

Reading through the articles on Influenster and I came across this little baby when reading about gift sets to buy for Mother’s Day! Omg I needs! I LOVE that it removes peach fuzz as well as exfoliates! Genius! I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my peach fuzz for a while now so that I can have a smoother finish when wearing makeup. Definitely need to invest in one of these!

I got so excited about it that I thought I’d share. Have you used this before? What do you think? Would you recommend? Let me know in the comments below.

Beauty Bay Haul!

Hiya! How are you all on this fine Wednesday? I thought I’d share with you all the goodies I got from Beauty Bay.

As you can see, it wasn’t a big haul,  or that interesting haha,  but I just needed to top up on some bits I was running low on.

I’ve been using Gerard Cosmetics setting spray but felt it really wasn’t cutting it (not worth the hype, that’s for sure) so wanted to try something different and thought I’d give the L. A. Girl HD Matte setting spray a go. It is also cruelty free, paraben and fragrance free which are all pluses in my book!

The second item that I bought from Beauty Bay was this Pomegranate sheet mask by Vitamasques. I’d recently blogged about their Acai Berry sheet mask which left my skin feeling so lush so of course I absolutely had to try out one of their others! I hope this will be just as yummy smelling as the Acai Berry mask was!

I’d ran out of my Lush Tea Tree toner so my last item is the Skin & Tonic London Rose Mist. I had specifically been looking for a rose water/toner because it is sooo good for your skin! This has only FOUR INGREDIENTS in it:

1. Rosa Centifolia (Rose) Flower Water

2. Glycerin

3. Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate

4. Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice Powder

How fantastic is that? No nasties whatsoever! I’m such a lover of natural skin care; I couldn’t not buy this! Rose water has so many benefits too! It’s an anti-inflammatory so reduces redness, relieves eczema as well as other skin conditions and helps fight acne. It’s also good at reducing stress/anxiety levels and supposedly helps with depression.
Well that’s it for today lovelies. Have you tried any of these products?  Got any natural skin care recommendations? Feel free to leave me a comment below. 😀

The Beauty Gift Swap!

Hey guys! How’s your Sunday going? Today I want to post about something I’m a part of and I’d love for you to be a part of it too! I’m admin for  a beauty swap box group on Facebook where each month members are teamed with a buddy and you each put together a box filled with lovely beauty, skincare products and other little gifts that you think your buddy will like. The amount you want to spend on your swap box gifts is entirely up to you and your buddy!  You don’t have to join in each month, you can just do it the once if you’d like.

It’s lots of fun and it’s great making new friends in the process. If you’d like to join or want to know more then click on one of the pictures to take you to the group. Sadly, because it may be expensive to post to other countries, the group is for UK and Ireland residents only.

Clarisonic Mia 2 or Foreo Luna?

I have always taken care of my skin but am wanting to purchase a cleansing system that will cleanse my skin far deeper and more thorough than I can ever do. So I went on a hunt and have narrowed down my search to 2 products; the Clarisonic Mia 2 and the Foreo Luna (in blue for combination skin). For quite some time, now, I’ve had the Clarisonic range on my wish list but then I came across the Foreo Luna and was intrigued, especially as you don’t have to change heads so it saves on more expense. Can anyone advise me as to which I should go for? Have any of you used both and prefer one over the other? I’d be really grateful to hear your views.

My Cult Beauty Haul!

I am slowly making my way through my wish list on Cult Beauty. These were my recent purchases:

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner in black – This is great because it’s liquid eyeliner in a pen, basically! So much easier to use! However, the eyeliner started to fade on my lower lashline and didn’t stay on my waterline at all. If anyone has any recommendations as to what I could use on my waterline please let me know. I’ve yet to try this eyeliner on my upper lashline but I imagine it’ll last much longer.

Kevyn Aucoin The Eyelash Curler – I wasn’t getting on with my other curler as it had a spring action to it and the rubber bit was too wide so it failed at curling my eyelashes. This eyelash curler by Kevyn Aucoin is sooo much better!

GinVera Green Tea Exfoliating Marvel Gel – I am so excited about using this! I’ve heard so many great reviews that I can’t wait to use it in the morning! I bought this because I wanted to use something that was gentle on my skin but would still exfoliate.

Have any of you tried these products? What did you think to them?

My First Birchbox Unboxing!

I decided that seeing as my Souksouk subscription was up, I’d check out a different subscription beauty box. I chose to go with Birchbox because I’d heard so many people raving about it and that they tailor to your skin/beauty/hair needs a lot better than some others, so I thought I’d see what all the fuss was about.

My box arrived yesterday and I was so excited to see what was inside. The box has such a cute and simple look to it! I would have blogged about it yesterday but was busy getting ready to go see Queen and Adam Lambert in concert (who btw were AMAZING!!! A post about that will be up sometime soon)!

I love that it came in a little drawstring bag. I got all excited when I saw that there Benefit High Beam as I’d been really wanting to try it out.

The Chia Co’s Oats & Chia.

Eyeko’s Fat Eye Stick in Gilt (full size).

Caudalie’s Vinoperfect Radiance Serum.

Electric Hair’s Hydrate Shampoo.

Benefit’s High Beam.

T London’s Darjeeling Bath & Shower Wash.

So far, I’ve tried out High Beam which highlights my cheeks and brow bone lovely. I’ve also tried the Vinoperfect Serum. I found this didn’t completely sink into my skin and a layer of serum was left on the surface a bit like moisturiser does. I think I prefer using my Yours Truly Organics’ Fix Me Repair Serum as that totally sinks in and feels like there’s nothing actually on the skin.

I can’t wait to try out the rest of the products! Do you subscribe to Birchbox? What did you think to this month’s selection of products?

20 Questions!

I first saw this on Blonde Girl Talks post. I loved her answers and thought it would be a really fun thing to do! Here we go …

1. Thing you cannot leave the house without?

Being practical, it would have to be my keys. Being truthful, it would be my phone haha I’d be absolutely lost without it.

2. Favourite brand of make up?

Oooh I couldn’t possibly choose! I like different brands for different reasons.

3. Favorite Flower?

I’m gonna sound really cliché here but I love roses. Lilies and orchids are very beautiful too. And if I was to get married (fingers crossed) I’d love to have a bouquet of wild flowers.

4. Favourite Clothing store?

I quite like Next for their quality. I also love Forever 21 for their diversity but I can never figure out their sizing when it comes to trousers/jeans haha! If I’m shopping in Lincoln then you’ll usually find me browsing the rails in Primark.

5. Favourite Perfume?

I actually have 3 favourite perfumes coz I’m greedy like that!

The first is CK One. It was the first perfume that I fell in love with.

The second is Gucci Rush. It’s such a sweet smell, if a little sickly at times, depending on my mood I guess.

My third and last one if Sui Dreams. I think actually this is my favourite out of the three. It is such a lovely sweet floral scent!

6. Heels or flats?

I wear flats most of the time (I have an artificial leg so balance-wise this is better for me) but I do like to wear heels, too on occassion.

7. Do you get good grades in school?

Well they weren’t exactly A*s but I was pleased with my results. After I started college, I popped back to school to visit my teachers and some were so mad at me when I told them that instead of doing something academic, I was doing a hairdressing course lol oops!

8. Favourite Colour?

Ohhh purple all the way!

9. Do you drink energy drinks?

Not any more. As well as becoming dependant on them, they made me feel poorly and gave me a poorly tummy, not to mention messing with my heart rate and making me feel jittery to the point where I couldn’t focus on doing my work. It’s baaaad stuff! People have died after drinking them because it affects your heart!

10. Do you drink juice?

Yes I do! I love orange and mango juice!

11. Do you like swimming?

I looove swimming! In school, because of my leg, it was the only sport I could confidently do so whilst everyone else was playing netball, rugby, hockey, etc. I’d be at the leisure centre happily swimming away. I’d love to go daily but I’d need assistance and there’s no one who could go with me. 😔

12. Do you eat your chips with a fork?

Mmmm chippy chips! I do eat with a fork but if they’re from the chippy then it’s fingers whilst eating out the wrapper lol!

13. What is your favorite moisturizer?

I just use E45. It’s a cream I’ve had to use all my life tbh. It works just as well in my face as any other part of my body. I am thinking about investing in an actual moisturiser, though as I’m being to get tiny lines in the outer corner of my eyes now. Eek! Damn getting old!

14. Do you want to get married?

I would love to! I would love a small wedding in the woods or a manor house or castle or something. Or maybe we’d just elope and get married on a beach somewhere haha. Like Hawaii! My dress would be simple yet classy like Monica’s dress in Friends! Her dress was gorgeous! Saying that, if we got married in a castle I’d totally have a medieval style dress. However, if it’s a beach wedding then would be hippyfied with flared sleeves and it would be made of cotton.

15. Do you get mad easily?

Not really as I’m a fairly calm and laid back person but people can wind me up easily and I can also be quite sensitive.

16. Do you believe in ghosts?

Hmm I’m not sure tbh. I’d like to think it’s possible as I’d hate to think we die and there’d be nothing afterwards.

17. Do you have any phobias?

Spiders and creepy crawlies. Eek me no likey! Ever seen the film The Covenant? There’s this scene where tinnes of tiny spiders are crawling around this dorm room, onto this girl and then into her ear! *shudders* I always look away now when I watch it! For a while I’d sleep in my hooded dressing gown so that nothing could crawl in my ears! This also happened after I got stung in the head one night by a bee! My god it was sooo painful and I was so shocked that I started to shake and was crying. It took me ages to calm down. I was in pain for several days!

My most illogical phobia (or maybe it’s a fear??) is ventriloquist dummies! I hate, hate, hate them! Those things creep me out so bad! My sister is the same. We were once watching a sitcom where all of a sudden, a ventriloquist dummy was pulled out the back of a car and we both screamed hahaha! I don’t like dolls either. Like Chucky or that bloody Annabelle doll! I won’t even watch that film lol!

Oh and clowns. I hate clowns!

18. Do you bite your nails?

Nope I’ve never been a biter.

19. Starbucks or costa?

I’m a Costa convert. Their Chai tea is to die for! However, I love Cafè Neros for their coffee. Much more flavour than Starbucks.

20. tea of coffee?

I’m more of a tea drinker now. I love trying different teas! Pukka teas are sooo flavoursome! They beat Twinings hand down!

To give the blog a makeover/name change?

For a while now I’ve been thinking about giving the blog a makeover and also a name change. But I’m undecided. I’ve never been a fan of change. It’s something I’ve always found hard to adjust to. Plus, in this case, I’d also have to inform publishers etc of the change, not to mention a new email address. Oh, and a new Twitter name! *sigh*

However, I feel it might be necessary as the blog has really changed over the years. When the blog first started out, it was thought up by myself and 3 other friends. We were keen on reading and reviewing books, talking about movies and TV shows, and writing about celebs and the entertainment world. It was really fun working with the girls on the blog but, after a while, things had gone really quiet which eventually lead to the blog going on hiatus due to my friends having other commitments and myself feeling like I was on some kind of reviewer’s writer’s block. I’m not sure if the girls would agree here but, it could also have been because of the pressure to constantly come up with something to blog about. Anyway, fast forward to 2014; I’d been off work ill and had this sudden urge to start the blog up again as a way to keep me occupied. This time, though, I found that as well as reviewing books, generally chatting about books, and doing a bit of proofreading, I was also talking about beauty and skincare products. Basically, anything that I was interested in. This made it easier for me to blog because it meant my focus wasn’t solely on books. Hence the name change. I feel that Secret Lives of Fiction Lovers no longer encompasses the things I blog about and that I should now come up with a more apt name. What are your thoughts? To keep it or change it?

Really sorry about the long arsed post.

Take care,

Beauty Products I’m Excited About!

As you may know by now, I love discovering new beauty products especially if they are animal cruelty free and/or holistic. There are a few products that I have come across recently that I’m really excited to try.

Móa The Green Balm

Móa The Green Balm is a 100% natural healing balm used to soothe, nourish and renew the skin. It’s a hard-working multi-tasker, that helps nourish and hydrate dry skin, resuscitate lack-lustre locks and can be used a daily cleansing balm, to balance oily or dry skin and remove residucal make-up and grime. It can also be used to soothe bites, grazes, bruises and eczema, or as an aftercare product for tattoos and piercings. Suitable for super-sensitive skin.
This seems to be quite the all-rounder as far as beauty products go. Apparently it can also lessen the appearance of dark circles around the eyes! I’ve purchased this from Feel Unique which have an even more in-depth description of it here!

Dr. Hauschka Daily Hydrating Eye Cream

Great for dryness, sensitivity and puffiness this Eye Cream is surprisingly moisturising considering its non-greasy, lightweight texture and one tube lasts for ages. Daily Revitalising Eye Cream contains vitamin rich Sea Buckthorn, moisturising Avocado, Jojoba, Almond, Macadamia and then Marsh Mallow and Pineapple to regenerate and hydrate your eye contour area.

Speaking of eyes, I recently said in a post that I don’t use eye cream but that I probably should. After having a browse through all kinds of eye creams of varying prices, I settled on this; Dr. Hauschka Daily Hydrating Eye Cream. I’m really intrigued to know if it will help combat the puffiness that I get. It seems that no matter how much sleep I get, I can never get rid of the puffiness. So I can’t wait to see if this does the trick. Again, this is another product that I’ve purchased from Feel Unique. I recently received a £5 voucher from them so I used it to knock some of the price off so that it was a little cheaper.

Another eye cream that I wouldn’t mind trying at some point is the Yes To Grapefruit Uneven Skin Tone Dark Circle Correcting Eye Cream.

Yes To Grapefruit Uneven Skin Tone Dark Circle Correcting Eye Cream is a lightweight eye treatment that is clinically proven to help visibly diminish the appearance of dark circles in four weeks, naturally! This cream is formulated with Grapefruit, which is packed with Lycopene and fruit acids that help fade age spots and increase luminosity, Licorice Root, which calms and soothes skin inflammation and helps combat dark circles around the eyes. Have any of you tried it? I’d love to know what you think of it.

GinVera Exfoliating Marvel Gel With Green Tea

Ginvera Marvel Gel is the most popular blackhead treatment in Asia where skin quality is king. It is a very different exfoliant and extractor because there are no abrasive grains, it is gentle enough to use on sensitive, blemish-prone skin but with noticeable results after just one use. The fact that it also has anti-ageing effects means that this mask is a great answer to the all-too-common problem of adult acne.
This, I’m very excited about. Normally, I like an exfoliator to have tiny grains of some kind as that’s the only way I feel would get rid of all the dirt and grime but this stuff has me intrigued! When I get paid, I’m going to purchase it and see what it’s like.

Have you guys tried any of these products? What did you think of them?

If there is anything you would like me to review, drop me an email at:

My Souksouk Little Green Beauty Box Is Here!

Just like with the sleep box I blogged about, I was so excited when I saw this was waiting for me!

What lush things did I get in it this time? Here’s a list:

And a pic of all the lovely goodies that the list talks about:

And a close up of the Glam 3-in-1 Lipsuite in Rose Pink:

It claims to be a lip balm, colour and gloss all-in-one. So can’t wait to try that out.

I am particularly excited to try the Calendula Cream as I suffer from eczema. So, with it being all natural ingredients, I really hope it works. Plus, it smells divine!

I love that Souksouk introduces me to brands I’ve never even heard of before.
