I am spending my Sunday catching up on some reading. It’s been a while since I’ve had a proper read and there’s a book that I’ve been reading bit by bit for the past couple of months.
Now this is a fab read (I’m over half way through) and is inspired by The Nutcracker. The only reason it’s taking me a while to read is because I haven’t really had that overwhelming urge to read. You know what I mean? I seem to be going through a phase I can’t seem to concentrate on reading, it’s like I’ve lost my reading mojo or something lol. So for the past couple of days I’ve been making a concerted effort to get back into reading.
As well as reading my book, I have also painted my nails.
The nail polish came free with my Cosmo mag (I haven’t read a magazine in quite a long time so I thought it would make a nice change to read one on the way home from London the other week). 😀 I initially thought this was a shade of red but it seems to shift between red and orange, dependant on the light. The polish did take a little while to dry but dried to a lovely shiny effect once it had.
Right now, I’ve taken a break from reading because Labyrinth is on TV. Yay!! I love this film and have been brought up watching it since I was a kid, thanks to my dad! It’s quite ironic that it’s on today as last night I’d been looking at this amazing site that makes Labyrinth inspired items! These are some of the items I’d love to buy if I had the pennies:
Goblin King! Is it just me or did anyone else find David Bowie sexy as the Goblin King?
I just want it all to be honest. They are all so beautifully detailed and look just like they’ve stepped out of the film!
If you’d like to check out more of the items then you can find the site Here! They’re all lovingly handmade by the amazing Alyson Tabbitha who I actually discovered on DeviantArt after coming across some amazing crystal sword necklaces that she’s made which are also available on her site.
Right, time for me to get back to watching Labyrinth and wishing that I had my very own Ludo and Worm! Enjoy your Sunday! 😀
I woke up this morning with an awful dry patch on my chin and around my jawline. Suffice to say, I was not impressed! I *think* I’ve had a reaction to something but not sure what so will have to single out a product to see which it is. I suspect it may be my rose toner. I was going to wear makeup today as was wanting to experience with my Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow palette but thought I should give my skin a rest so this is me au naturale:
Bar my Yours Truly Organics Fix Me! Repairing Serum, Dr. Hauschka Daily Hydrating Eye Cream and Clinique Moisture Surge Gel Creme.
Despite me still having a cold, my sister and I had a great day yesterday. We went into Scunthorpe and did a bit of shopping before going to the cinema to see Insurgent. I love the top I bought from Select. It’s very Faith from Buffy, I thought. I thought the chemise was so cute and just had to buy. I really want to get a mint green kimono or something to go with the chemise, too. Hehe I’m such a geek and just had to buy the Wonder Woman thongs! It was actually my sister who spotted them and knew I’d love them! The smellies I bought will be birthday or Christmas gifts. The mango one will be for my sister as she loves The Mortal Instruments same as me so will totally get the reference (she got me one too haha!).
Here’s my haul:
Top – £8.99 reduced to £4.99.

Insurgent was good but as with most adaptations, it missed loads out, especially scenes that we book fans were hoping to see! It also included things that weren’t supposed to happen until the third book. So I’ve no idea how the film for Allegiant will pan out especially as it’s being filmed in two parts aswell!
I hope everyone is having a fab weekend!
Awww we do love our Kellan. I’d be happy to see him in another Twilight film. 😀
Tonight my sister and I went to see The Fault in Our Stars – finally! Oh the feels! It is one of those films that has an impact on your life and stays with you forever. It’s real, it’s honest, it’s heart wrenching and it’s funny. You find yourself laughing one moment and crying the next. The characters were just as loveable in the film as they were in the book. The film captured the essence of the book beautifully and, for me, it is one of the more successful book adaptations. Hazel has such a real outlook on life, she accepts the fact she has cancer and that there is no point lying, she IS going to die, and I love that about her. Gus is a witty and charming guy who I related to because I, too, have an artificial leg (though cancer wasn’t the reason why my leg was amputated) and even though you wouldn’t normally get emotional about a sex scene, I did. Why? Because the one thing you worry about as an amputee is how a person will react, not only when you tell them for the first time, but also when they see your stump for the first time. Gus preparing Hazel for what his stump will be like, right before they have sex, is basically what I was like too because you worry that the other person will freak out and go running for the hills. So, yeah, I got all emotional but then burst out laughing when Hazel struggled to get her top off coz it’s so real! Daft things like that really do happen! Like I said, there were certainly some funny moments but I found myself bawling my eyes out at other moments like when Gus totally breaks down in his car. Like in the book, I wish there had been more scenes at Gus’s house after he got really ill as I felt the car scene would have made even more of an impact on the viewer. There was a fair bit not included in the film but despite that, it was still amazing! Okay? Okay.
I was thinking a few weeks ago about how much I love Christmas, and especially Christmas films, and I thought…Why not watch lots of Christmas films and review them on the blog?? I also thought wouldn’t it be great if all the girls here at SLOFL watched some of the Christmas films and discussed which ones we love and which ones we MUST watch at Christmas…
I put together a list of 30 films that I want to try to watch before midnight on New Years Eve…not an easy feat if you have a busy life, but I think it can be done.
The list is below…
A Christmas Carol (w/ Jim Carrey)
A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas
Babes In Toyland
Christmas Carol: The Movie (w/ Kate Winslet)
Deck The Halls
The Grinch (live action)
Home Alone 1 & 2
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the cartoon)
It’s A Wonderful Life
Jingle All The Way
Meet Me In St Louis
Mickey’s Christmas Carol
Miracle On 34th Street (New)
Miracle On 34th Street (Old)
Muppet’s Christmas Carol
Nightmare Before Christmas
Santa Clause 1, 2 & 3 (Tim Allen)
The Polar Express
So, what do you think? Are there some of your favourites in there? Are there some you would like to have seen on the list? If you leave us a comment by Christmas eve we’ll pick a few of them to watch during the week running up to New Year’s Eve. Plus, with it being Christmas and all, we thought we’d play Santa so those that we do pick will receive some goodies from us (including something extra special for 2 of you). They will arrive a little late of course but hey, it’ll give you something to look forward to in January 🙂
So, to sum up, all you have to do to enter is, leave us a comment and recommend a film that isn’t already on the list and leave us either your email address or Twitter name so we have a way of contacting the winner. As usual, if you’re under 16 please get permission from your parents.
Merry Christmas everyone!
