Reading, Nails and Labyrinth

I am spending my Sunday catching up on some reading. It’s been a while since I’ve had a proper read and there’s a book that I’ve been reading bit by bit for the past couple of months.

Now this is a fab read (I’m over half way through) and is inspired by The Nutcracker. The only reason it’s taking me a while to read is because I haven’t really had that overwhelming urge to read. You know what I mean? I seem to be going through a phase I can’t seem to concentrate on reading, it’s like I’ve lost my reading mojo or something lol. So for the past couple of days I’ve been making a concerted effort to get back into reading.

As well as reading my book, I have also painted my nails.

The nail polish came free with my Cosmo mag (I haven’t read a magazine in quite a long time so I thought it would make a nice change to read one on the way home from London the other week). 😀 I initially thought this was a shade of red but it seems to shift between red and orange, dependant on the light. The polish did take a little while to dry but dried to a lovely shiny effect once it had.

Right now, I’ve taken a break from reading because Labyrinth is on TV. Yay!! I love this film and have been brought up watching it since I was a kid, thanks to my dad! It’s quite ironic that it’s on today as last night I’d been looking at this amazing site that makes Labyrinth inspired items! These are some of the items I’d love to buy if I had the pennies:

Art Dolls   Ludo Friend!

Chilly Down!

   Ello! I absolutely love this!!

Statues

Goblin King! Is it just me or did anyone else find David Bowie sexy as the Goblin King?

Jewellery

  Knocked Earrings!
 Goblin King Pendant!

I just want it all to be honest. They are all so beautifully detailed and look just like they’ve stepped out of the film!

If you’d like to check out more of the items then you can find the site Here! They’re all lovingly handmade by the amazing Alyson Tabbitha who I actually discovered on DeviantArt after coming across some amazing crystal sword necklaces that she’s made which are also available on her site.

Pretty, right? I love it! I can’t wait to see her April collection! They’re definitely worth checking out if you love your crystals and also swords, like I do!

Right, time for me to get back to watching Labyrinth and wishing that I had my very own Ludo and Worm! Enjoy your Sunday! 😀

Matte Eyeshadow palette – Recommendations needed.

Hi all! I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend so far. Personally, I’m longing for the weekend. As always.

I was wondering if any of you could help me. I am on the look-out for a matte eyeshadow palette but not sure which to go for. I’ve looked at so many from all kinds of price ranges. I nearly bought a cheap one by W7 but there were mixed reviews and some claiming that the pigmentation was poor so that got a thumbs down from me. I thought about getting one of the Naked Basic palettes and even fell in love with a quad palette by Charlotte Tilbury but in both cases ummed and ahhed due to their price tag. I don’t mind paying it – if it’s worth it. So this is where you guys come in … what would you suggest? Be they affordable or expensive, what palette is your holy grail?

YSL Haul and FoTD

Ok, I had a makeup splurge! I had never tried YSL makeup before but had heard so many good things about the brand in general and I had been wanting the Touché Éclat for the longest time so I thought, “Eh! What the hell! Go for it!” So I took the plunge! I was initially going to buy the touché éclat from Boots’ online site but then thought I’d just go direct and I’m so glad I did! Why? Well I got freebies! And who doesn’t like freebies! I bought the Touché Éclat (in the shade 1.5 as I’m pale but not ghost-like plus I have yellow undertones) and the Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain in shade 35. When I got to the check-out I realised I’d qualified for some freebies! Woohoo! This consisted of:

2 x Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils samples

2 x Black Opium samples

1 x Forever Youth Liberator sample

1 x Dessin De Lèvres – lip liner in shade 6

1 x Top Secrets Eye Makeup Remover

I was so excited to see the YSL parcel waiting for me when I got back from my trip to London (more about my trip in a later post). It was like Christmas Day all over again with the freebies and all! Here are the goodies:

The first thing I thought when I saw the shade in person was, “Eek! It’s bright pink!” as I was expecting a more softer, natural pink.

Ok, so the inner of my arm is more pale than the actual shade but it worked quite well with my face’s skin tone. I think if I’d got the lighter shade, it would have washed me out.

And here are the freebies:

I gave one of the perfume samples to my mum as I knew she’d love it! Dad bought her a bottle of the original Opium around 30 years ago and she still has the bottle sat on her dresser to this day! The lip liner is more plum-y than bright pink like the lip stain but that’s ok with me, it tones down the colour a little.

Here’s me wearing the wearing my YSL gloss stain and touché éclat:

So what do you think? Have any of you guys tried YSL? Do you love it? Hate it? Comment below! I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend! I’m home for the next few weekends which sadly means I won’t be seeing my boyfriend but it does mean I can concentrate on my proofreading so yay!

Too Faced…

Nooo I don’t mean a person! I mean the deliciously cute beauty brand! I was meant to be being good with my money but …. Temptation got the better of me! Oops!

The other day I was on the hunt for a BB cream as I seem to have fallen out with my foundation at the mo and wanted something that was a little more sheer and a little less mask-like because I always seemed to look washed out. After reading countless reviews on several different BB creams on Debenhams’ website, I settled on Too Faced’s Tinted Beauty Balm with SPF 20 (bonus!) in the shade Vanilla Glow. I chose this because not only was it a light shade, but also someone had commented that it had a yellowy undertone to it which I thought would go perfectly with my own yellowy looking skin lol.

I’d also noticed that Debenhams were selling the Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar eyeshadow palette. I had been drooling over this for quite some time and discovered that not many places online seemed to be selling it, so for fear of it completely selling out, I bit the bullet and bought that from Debenhams, too. Eek! So I ended up spending a fair bit but boy was it worth it!

Both items arrived today. It was perfect timing as I’d been sent home from work, ill (still have a cold and a cough) so was feeling quite pooey but when the postie handed me these, it really cheered me up!

Sorry about the terrible lighting. My first impressions were that the design BB cream looked posh and fancy and the eyeshadow palette really does smell of chocolate! It smells gorgeous and the shades are all sooo pretty!

I had a brief play with the BB cream and here are the before, during and after pics:

Before: No makeup. I’d prepped my skin with some rose toner to start with.

During: I’d put on my primer and some orange correcting concealer from MAC under and around my eyes.

After: I’d applied the BB cream with my beauty blender. The consistency is more liquidy than I thought it would be (In the past I’ve used Clinique’s which is quite thick in comparison) so it will last quite a while methinks. At first I thought it made me look a little *too* yellow but when I compare the pics it’s lessened the redness in my cheeks, evened out my skin tone and I suppose it’s given me a bit of a glow, too. What do you think? Yay or nay? Oh and please ignore the wonky right eye that constantly looks like I’ve been punched lol. I’m blind in that eye and normally I’d be covering it with my fringe but in this instance I’d put my hair back just so I could apply makeup. Also, ignore my eyebrows. I know they really need doing lol.

I also had a play with the eyeshadows but shall posts pics at a later date once I’ve had more time with them. I will say that I love the colours and so far, they all seem to have really great pigmentation so no need to apply layer upon layer of eyeshadow like I do with my ELF eyeshadow palette. Can’t wait to play around with my chocolate bar palette more! Saturday I’ll be going to the cinema with my sister to see Insurgent (we looooove the books!) so it gives me the perfect excuse!

I was having a browse on the Too Faced site and I fell in love with this eyeshadow palette:

The Sugar Pop eyeshadow palette has some really cute colours that I’d love to try and how sweet is that macaron design on the front of the tin?! Nowhere in the UK is selling it as yet so was gutted to find that Too Faced don’t ship to here. 😔 Fingers crossed it’ll be available over here some time soon, though.

I hope you’re all having a lovely day! Being sent home from work gave me the chance to catch up on Vampire Diaries, 100 and the Gotham double bill.
