Order of the Wolf, Book 2

Aubrey Devlin thought she had a destiny—to become a Huntress, be mated to a Hunter, and spend her life in everlasting, werewolf ass-kicking bliss. But after years of honing her wolf-slaying skills, it’s her twin sister who’s chosen for the coveted honor.

Swallowing her disappointment, she takes a job as head of security for the band Riot. Staying professional is tough when it comes to the band’s sex-god bassist, an alpha bad-boy to the extreme. She will keep her mind on her work—as soon as she figures out how to stop drooling over the man.

Jaylon isn’t good with women—especially those with the ability to kill him—yet he knows without a doubt Aubrey is his mate. Now if only he can get the stubborn woman to fall for him.

One argument too many, and instead of clawing each other’s eyes out, they wind up clawing each other’s clothes off. It’s then that Jaylon realizes the truth: Aubrey is a true Huntress. He’d better find a way to claim his mate before a Hunter claims her first…

Warning: Sexually explicit (like ripping-clothes-off, sex-in-public-places explicit) language. Rock-star bad-ass with long hair and a wicked bite. A take-no-crap huntress who bites back. You are encouraged to lick, suck, and devour your way through this tasty treat in one sitting—just be aware you might be hungry for more.

Mmm a sexy paranormal romance with a female huntress protagonist, werewolves and an awesome band? Oh hell yeah it’s my kinda book! I devoured it in no time. I’m a sucker for the hunter/werewolf (in this case) supposed forbidden love stories. It was so exciting! I found myself frustrated that as far as Aubrey was aware, her destiny is to kill the werewolves and she has no idea that there is this whole other side to her destiny that she hasn’t been told about. I was itching for her to find out the truth.

The chemistry between Aubrey and Jaylon was hot. The sex scenes were pretty racy and detailed but not on every other page which I was thankful for as I prefer a decent plot with a few sex scenes over something that is basically porn. I was gutted when the story suddenly ended a little unexpectedly. I felt there was a lot more still to be told and I ached to read the next in the series where I hope Aubrey and Jaylon’s story will continue and that Aubrey learns more about her heritage. Plus, I want to know more about the rest of the pack. Especially Dyami.

The Pack By Jason Starr – Review By Dayna

“Let the hunt begin . . .

When Simon Burns is fired from his job without warning, he takes on the role of stay-at-home dad for his three-year-old son. But his reluctance pushes his already strained marriage to the limit. In the nestled playgrounds of the Upper West Side, Simon harbors a simmering rage at his boss’s betrayal.

Things take a turn when he meets a tight-knit trio of dads at the playground. They are different from other men Simon has met, stronger and more confident, more at ease with the darker side of life- and soon Simon is lured into their mix. But after a guys’ night out gets frighteningly out of hand, Simon feels himself sliding into a new nightmarish reality.

As he experiences disturbing changes in his body and his perceptions, he starts to suspect that when the guys welcomed him to their “pack”, they were talking about much more than male bonding . . .”

What struck me about this novel is that although it’s an urban fantasy about werewolves, it doesn’t read like one for the most part. More like a psychological thriller. For those wanting to ease their way into the urban fantasy/paranormal world, this would be a great introduction. I love how Simon’s character develops throughout the book. How he copes with losing his job, becoming a stay-at-home-dad, trying to work through marital problems and then on top of all that, meets Michael and the gang and goes through some other major changes.

I like how the story was written from multiple points of view and how well eat character’s personality was written too. I’m always a bit iffy about reading a male author’s take on women but was quite impressed by Starr’s portrayal of Olivia and Alison.

I have to admit, I have a soft spot for Ramon with his smooth and charming ways but can’t say I warmed to Michael at all though the reader wasn’t really supposed to. He was on a power trip. I found him intimidating, brash, cold and incredibly forward. From a female’s point of view, I can’t really see why Olivia was so attracted to him. Then again Olivia did turn out to have a crazy side and I also found her needy and desperate.

It was a great read though a little slow paced to begin with. The morning after the big show down on the roof of the brewery, I was really hoping for more of an explanation as to what happened in the aftermath but maybe we’ll find out more in the sequel, The Craving. I would like to have had more emphasis on the paranormal but that’s down to pure preference on my part. I’m hoping that in book 2 we’ll get even more background on the werewolves. Can’t wait to find out what happens next!

I rate this book 4/5 stars!

My eyes tore open to the sound of screaming. The drywall rattled and Rayna’s voice raged through the wall. My pulse jumped as panic set in and I leapt from my bed moving straight for the door.

I ran through the archway, pants tangling on my legs as I tried to pull them up. Marcus, Willy, and Tiki were halfway down the hall, their faces owned by fear.

Marcus reached the door before me, turned the silver handle, and pushed through. The door creaked and the smell of blood, sweat, and something else seeped from the darkness. Marcus flicked on the light and I saw what I already feared.
